Mustafa Kizza Strikes Late As KCCA Pick Rare Double Over Vipers

Mustafa Kizza came from the bench to inflict more pain on title contenders Vipers Sports Club with a well-converted penalty kick at the death as KCCA picked up a rare win at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Friday night.

Kizza converted brilliantly from 12 yards in the third minute of additional time after defender Paul Patrick Mbowa was judged to have handled the ball inside the box by referee Ali Sabilla Chelangat.

It was a game where KCCA was dominant, painting the whole of Kitende yellow, after creating the most scoring opportunities and with a lion’s share of ball possession.

Allan Okello had the best opportunity to score for the Venoms, with his acrobatic volley being punched out by KCCA’s goalkeeper, Anthony Emojong.

An end-to-end affair saw both coaches making changes. For Vipers, Yunus Sentamu played just 20 minutes before paving the way for Salem Ekbad. Also, Moses Waiswa, Bright Anukani, and Martin Kizza all got playing time from the bench.

In response, the Kasassiro Boys introduced Saidi Mayanja, Peter Lwasa, and Kizza, who added more life in the closing moments of the game.

In the dying minutes, KCCA robbed midfielder Siraje Ssentamu of possession, and a Saidi Mayanja shot hit the arm of Mbowa, who was on the ground before referee Sabila pointed to the spot.

Kizza stepped up and sent goalkeeper Jack Komakech the wrong way, and the visiting fans were sent into raptures.

The win was KCCA’s first in Kitende and enabled them to secure a rare double over title holders, having won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Lugogo.

The loss blew holes in Vipers’ title chase after dropping to 5th on the log with 35 points, eight shy of table leader Kitara, but the venoms have two games in hand.

While KCCA accelerated to the 8th position with 29 points after 20 games. Abdalla Mubiru’s charges will play against Busoga United on March 29 before Vipers visit URA the following day.
