The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is combing all the districts of Greater Masaka and beyond to mobilize tens of thousands of Gen Muhoozi Kaineurgaba’s supporters ahead of the Baraza slated for this Friday, March 15 in Masaka.
Gen Muhoozi will attend the much-anticipated event at Masaka Liberation Square in Masaka City.
“We have traversed all the districts in Greater Masaka to mobilize Gen Muhoozi’s supporters to attend the Baraza,” said Dr.Balaam Barugahara, one of the chief coordinators of the function.
“We have established committees in every district of Greater Masaka to mobilize as many supporters as possible to come to Masaka and interact with Gen Muhoozi,” he emphasized.
The organizers expect to attract over 100,000 people at the event.
Greater Masaka is composed of districts; Masaka, Sembabule, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, Lyantonde, Kalangala, and Rakai
This will be the first public event since the rebranding of MK Movement to PLU in February 2024.
PLU describes itself as a civic movement with the aim of working towards reviving in Ugandans a spirit of good citizenship, national pride, national service, protection of vulnerable persons, combating corruption and wastage of public resources, and protection of the environment.
Gen Muhoozi, who is expected to stand for president in the 2026 elections, earlier this week met Members of Parliament from the Greater Masaka region ahead of his visit to the area.
The lawmakers include Juliet Kyinyamatama Suubi, the woman MP for Rakai district; Shartsi Musherure ( Mawogola North) and Twaha Kagabo (Bukoto South).
Julius Sewava, 24, a cobbler in Masaka city, says he is “so eager” to see Gen Muhoozi.
“We want Gen Muhoozi to take interest in our challenges as young people such as joblessness, lack of capital to start business and general poverty,” said Sewava.
Ruth Nantume, 31, a mother of two in Nyendo Town, says, “Muhoozi is our generational leader,” adding, “Our leaders are not interested in issues that affect us such as poor social service delivery, high cost of and bad roads.”
We understand that Muhoozi’s supporters have so far contributed over 100 cows and 500 goats for slaughter at the fete.
Inside Muhoozi Baraza
Gen Muhoozi has been holding Barazas in different parts of Uganda, urging people to work hard to overcome poverty, embrace government programmes and protect the environment.
During a visit to Teso last year, Muhoozi shared his personal story of engaging in combat against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels and advocated for manageable family sizes through family planning.
In Kabale, the former Chief of Land Forces emphasized the importance of good relations with Rwanda especially in regard to promoting trade, tourism and attracting investment in the region.
In Busoga and Sebei, Muhoozi commended the regions for nurturing talent and assured government support for talent development.
