Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with General Christian Tshiwewe Songesa, the General Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), to strengthen cooperation against common security threats.
The meeting, held at the Defence Intelligence and Security Headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala, follows a recent visit from South Sudan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Santino Deng Wol.
Gen Kainerugaba, also the senior presidential advisor for special operations, has previously engaged with regional counterparts, including those from Rwanda, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, and Egypt.
The DRC military chief was accompanied by high-ranking FARDC officials.
Uganda’s delegation included Commander Land Force Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Airforce Commander Lt Gen Charles Okidi and SFC Commander Maj Gen BD Mugisha among others.
Notably, the meeting comes after DRC President Felix Tshisekedi’s visit to President Yoweri Museveni at State House in Entebbe.
The UPDF and DRC forces have been conducting joint operations against ADF terrorists in Eastern DRC.
This meeting reinforces the commitment of both nations to regional security and stability.
