Uganda – Egypt Bolster Ties Gets Strengthen As Gen Muhoozi Paid A Visit

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) visited Egypt and met with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to discuss avenues for deeper bilateral cooperation.

During this high-level meeting, attended by Egypt’s Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defence and Military Production, General Abdel Megeed Saqr, both sides underscored their commitment to enhancing partnerships across a range of sectors, with a particular emphasis on military collaboration.

Gen Kainerugaba and President Al-Sisi explored regional and continental dynamics, focusing on how to bolster joint development efforts among African nations, especially those in the Nile Basin, the Horn of Africa, and East Africa.

While in Egypt, the CDF, who attended a company commander’s course in the country, paid tribute to former Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat by laying a wreath at his tomb located at the Unknown Soldier Memorial in Cairo. The memorial, commissioned by President Sadat in 1974 to honour soldiers who lost their lives in the 1973 October War, was inaugurated in October 1975 and later became Sadat’s final resting place following his assassination in October 1981.

Gen. Kainerugaba, who concluded his visit to Egypt on Thursday, also met the Chief of Defense Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces and other top military leaders.
