The Chief of Defense Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister for Defense, Dr. Khaled bin Muhammed Al-Attiyah.
The CDF who is in Qatar at the invitation of the State’s Armed Forces was welcomed for talks with the Minister at his office before he toured key military installations.
The Minister then hosted Gen Kainerugaba to a luncheon at his residence where they engaged in cordial discussions.
Although the UPDF and the Qatar Armed Forces signed a military cooperation agreement in 2017, the CDF’s visit aims to bolster the agreement with the gulf nation.
The 2017 cooperation agreement highlights cooperation in areas such as training, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism efforts.
Before meeting the Minister, Gen Kainerugaba also met with Maj Gen Jassim Al-Attiyah, Qatar’s Joint Special Forces Commander.
At the Joint Special Forces Headquarters, Gen Kainerugaba was also taken on a guided tour of the installation and capabilities of Qatar’s Joint Special Forces were presented to him.
The CDF was accompanied by Col Christopher Muwumba, his military assistant, and Lt Col Dr Richard Katungye, the Director of Medical Services for the UPDF Special Forces Command.
On Monday, Gen Kainerugaba had met with other leaders of the Military Police Forces and the National Service Academy of Qatar, engaging in discussions on mutual interests.
